Achieving & maintaining a valid COR is required for earning refunds from WCB if registered in the WCB PIR Program. The Partners in Injury Reduction (PIR) program encourages the development of effective workplace health, safety and disability management programs in Alberta. The program offers Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) premium incentives to employers who reduce their claim costs below predicted targets. Employers must meet specified standards for health and safety outlined by Alberta Human Resources and Employment and OH&S.
Companies entering the PIR program work towards attaining a Certificate of Recognition (COR). COR indicates that an employer has implemented a health and safety program that is compliant with the standards established by their Certifying Partner Alberta & OH&S. The Alberta Safety Council is a Certifying Partner to those employers who do not have an established health and safety association.
There are many reasons why companies should pursue a COR:
To prevent injuries, loss time, and property damage.
To recognize cost savings through WCB rebates and discounts.
To be eligible to bid on certain contracts because they have or are actively pursuing a COR.
To minimize personal & company liability by providing a Health & Safety Program, where in doing everything reasonably practicable to ensure the safety of all employees.
